Trip Report

Spent last weekend in Brussels (day trip to Ghent), staying at Le Meridien. (Hotel review will appear in a day or so). Had a wonderful time – eating fabulous food, overdosing on chocolate and sampling one or two (in fact many) Belgian beers! This was my second visit to Brussels and it was just as lovely as I remember.

The architecture is stunning – both new and old. I particularly enjoyed the modern architecture around the EU buildings.

I really like the area of Sablon with all of its antique shops, art galleries and wonderful cafés. We had a great time walking around the antique market held on Sunday morning.

Went to Ghent on Saturday. Caught train, then No 1 Tram as advised by Tripadvisor members. Ghent was beautiful, particularly along the river. One thing to note- many of the restaurants stopped serving food at about 2pm. This surprised us but we were told by 4 restaurants this was the case so make sure you plan your lunch a bit better than we did. We did eventually eat and the food was very good, service was fantastic.

Saturday night we ate at Belga Queen, Brussels. The place is amazing, fantastic food and the most gorgeous building. Worth every Euro.

Thanks to all the Tripadvisor people who helped us plan this trip. A resounding success.
