Le Plaza Hotel - A good choice?

My fiancé and I are going to Brussels for the first time in June 09 for our honeymoon. I booked an Executive suite for 5 nights at the Le Plaza, and feel like I got a good rate.

Is Le Plaza a good choice in terms of location, safety, and class of hotel? I would love to book at The Amigo, but can%26#39;t afford it. We%26#39;re not offended by the s*x shops and strip clubs around Le Plaza, but I%26#39;m wondering if we should feel threatened by the people who hang around that area at night.

Plaza%26#39;s interiors are very nice, but i think it should be more comparable to the Metropole. It%26#39;s area isn%26#39;t the prettiest one of the center, but it%26#39;s ok, since you know from before that there are sex shops around it. As you are a couple, i do not think that you have many chances feeling threatened at night in the area. Although, for the money that an executive suite costs there(assuming that is around 240euros), I was able to get an executive suite at the Royal Windsor, which is in a better area, just off the Grand Place. Thus i changed my reservation and stayed at the Royal Windsor.

Great, thank you Greece.

although the area has been cleaned up considerably, it is still one of the more dangerous areas i know (after dark). there are a lot of prostitutes (and pimps) in the area and therefore drugs, knife crime etc. i personally would not stay there and certainly not on honeymoon. i suggest the sofitel le louise as a much better option in terms of quality and location.

Thanks for the suggestion, Marmotte.

Is the Sofitel le Louise within walking distance of the Grand Place, etc?

|||

the sofitel is next to the shopping area of Avenue Louise and a 15 minute walk through the Sablon area to the Grand Place. The three areas you will be visiting most

|||

But the Sofitel is still under renovations, so it may be a bit noisy.

Try to check the Amigo or the Royal Windsor Hotel, which is right off the Grand Place.

|||

I don%26#39;t know if the previous poster had a bad experience there, but I don%26#39;t mind walking (alone) to the Plaza hotel at night. If you take Bld Ad Max from the centre, there is no problem imo.

In any case, if you can afford the prices, Amigo, Metropole, Royal Windsor are better choices. I like the next one as well: http://www.ledixseptieme.be/. Have had very good feeedback from people staying there. But the room have all a different character. Some are modern. If you like classic style, you should ask for such a room.

the front part of the sofitel is complete and it is only the rear that is under renovation. this is a separate part of the building and would not affest your stay in any way - unless you took an unrenovated room at the back

Great, thanks everyone!
