12 hours in Brussels

I have an extensive layover in Brussels (about 12 hours) and would like to see the city while I am there. Any advise on how to get around and where to store luggage?

Thank you!

There are left luggage places at the airport, which would be your best bet if you are going back to it.

Then take the train from under the airport (€2.90) and get off at the second stop, which is Gare centrale. Go out the front, cross the road to Citbank, go under the archway to the right of it then turn right and follow the street downhill. Where the street levels out you have a choice between the Galeries St. Hubert on the right and a street leading to the Grand%26#39; Place on the left. You can easily spend the day in this area, or if you prefer, take one of the HoHo tourist buses from outside the Gare centrale, you don%26#39;t have to get off to visit the museums etc. if nothing takes your fancy, but can just use it to get a view of the city, including driving out to the Cinquantenaire archway in one direction and the atomium in the other.

However, the Place Royale stop for half-a-dozen museums is also a good lunch stop since the Musée d%26#39;Art Ancien has a good café/restaurant (you don%26#39;t have to pay the entrance price to use it, just walk in past the ticket desk, enter a large hallway and turn left). Or, the nearby Musical Instrument Museum is well worth a visit for the building and (if it%26#39;s a nice day, anyway) rooftop café. The BelVue Museum also has quite a nice café (with a back door in Place Royale).
