Storage and Hotel;

Hi All, I will be arriving in Brussels on september 7th. I will be travelling to Amsterdam, Venice (from charleroi). I need to store my luggage (4 large suitcases) somewhere as i dont want to carry it with me. Can you please suggest a place where i can store my luggae? Also I need to stay in a good hotel. Can some one suggest a good hotel with connectivity to Brussels Airport(where i will be flying in and flying out) and close to a place where i can store my luggage.

Thanks

Since you say you will be travelling to Amsterdam and Venice FROM CHARLEROI but flying in and out of Brussels Airport, I presume you are using Brussels as a base for travelling from Charleroi!

If so, the most convenient location to stay in and leave luggage at would be Gare du Midi, where the Ryanair shuttle departs from for Charleroi Airport, and you can also catch the airport train for Brussels Airport (although you can also catch that at central and Nord) but it%26#39;s not a very nice area. If you must, the Ibis Gare du Midi would be your best bet, and you can leave your luggage at the station.

Otherwise, you can take a local train one stop to Gare centrale, leave luggage there, and stay at any of the nearby hotels, e.g. the Méridien, right across the road, the Ibis %26quot;Off Grand%26#39; Place%26quot;, the Novotel ditto, etc. You would have to travel back to Midi for the Ryanair coach but you can catch the airport train directly from gare centrale.

Hi ,First Thanks for the reply. Yes i will be using Brussels as a base for travelling from charleroi, i have the flight from charleroi to venice on sep 9th (15.30pm) , so i need to come back from Amsterdam before that. I will look for the Ibis at Gare du Midi, is it close to all the attractions in Brussels? Currently i have reservation at Formule1 Brussels airport(since its close to Brussels airport i booked the hotel there) i will have to cancel it.How much do they charge for luggage storage? Also can u suggest other good hotels like Ibis at Gare du Midi if i dont get at Ibis?

Thanks a lot

No, Gare du Midi is NOT close to any attractions in Brussels, that is why it would be better to stay near Gare centrale instead. Assuming that you are going to Amsterdam by train, you can just as easily go there from Gare centrale as from Gare du Midi. It%26#39;s only Charleroi Airport that is more accessible from Midi.

Incidentally if you mean you would be coming back from Amsterdam the same day as you would be flying to Venice from Charleroi, if your flight is at 15:30 you need to be at Gare du Midi by 13:00 at the latest. Charleroi Airport Shuttle now costs €13, and leaves from near the Air France office, at the Eurostar Terminal end of Gare du Midi.

I would not advise you to stay at Formule 1 near Brussels Airport unless you are prepared to take taxis to and from the airport, since it has no shuttle (this chain of hotels is aimed at drivers) and it is not THAT close to the airport (the only hotel that is is the expensive Sheraton Airport Hotel! It only takes 20 minutes on the train from Brussels Airport to Gare centrale, so look at the Ibis %26quot;Off Grand%26#39; Place%26quot; rather than the one at Midi. As alternatives, I already mentioned the Novotel http://www.novotel.com/fichehotel/

gb/nov/1030/fiche_hotel.shtml, a smaller possibility in that area is the Madeleine. Look in the list of %26quot;Brussels hotels%26quot; on the left.

Cost of luggage storage at the stations varies e.g. according to size of locker or number of pieces, but for both lockers and %26quot;consigne%26quot; (left luggage office) charge appllies per, I think, 4-hour period, so assume something like €3 per 4-hour period or roughly €1 an hour either per locker or, if you leave it at the consigne, per piece.

Hi Thanks again for the reply. I guess storing the luggage for 1 week can get expensive. Since i will have storing 4 suitcases for 1 week ,it might cost me about E$72(will they charge for each suitcase seperately? which will cost me about E$288) . I wish there was a cheaper option. I will cancel my formule1 hotel reservation and book Ibis or Novotel like you said.

Thanks

I%26#39;m not sure why you need to store so much luggage, virtually from your time of arrival, but if you don%26#39;t want any of it in Brussels, Amsterdam or Venice, you can always leave it at Brussels Airport, which would also be a cheaper option than the stations.

Wherever you leave it, you pay EITHER per piece, at a consigne, OR per locker, but I don%26#39;t know of any lockers big enough for 4 suitcases (or even 2). And yes, it is expensive because there isn%26#39;t much space and the service is intended for people who just need to drop things for a few hours. If you are returning to the same hotel after Amsterdam and Venice, they might possibly agree to keep a case for you, but I doubt that they will accept 4 (assuming there is only one of you, which seems to be the case). Also I suspect the more expensive hotels would be more inclined to do this than the cheaper ones, e.g. the Méridien (bang opposite Gare centrale) rather than the Ibis/Novotel.

I don%26#39;t even know how you could carry 4 suitcases from the plane to the train; is it absolutely necessary to bring this much?

Hi Thanks for reply, I am travelling with my wife , we will be coming from India to Brussels on our way back to US. Each of us will have 2 suitcases. Yeah i will try asking the hotel if they will allow me to leave the luggage there since i will be coming back to brussels.

Thanks

I%26#39;d advise you to check whether it is possible to send 2 (or 3) of your suitcases all the way from India to U.S. as unaccompanied baggage. It might very well be cheaper than trying to store it in Brussels, but if you must it would be both cheaper and easier to leave it at Brussels Airport, given that you will be leaving from there, than taking it into town and hoping the hotel will keep it for 3 or 4 days. This would avoid having to board the airport train with 4 large suitcases between 2 people, as well as possibly having to carry these up stairs when you get to Gare centrale (escalators don%26#39;t always work or you might not come out on the side they are on)!

Hi Gaminari, Thanks for reply, I called the IBIS at grand place, they said they have a luggage storage room where i can store my luggage. I told them i have 4 large suitcases, they said i should be able to store it there. If they allow me to store the luggage it will be great. I also found that at Brussels airport i can store luggage at E$10/day(expensive). Let me check if i can send the luggage like you said from India to US drectly.

Thanks

We have experienced a good B%26amp;B in the center of Brussels where the landlord provide a car lift from his splace to the airport even during early morning ( we could even get the breakfast at 4 pm :=) )

His name was Taste of belgium found on www.bnb-belgium.com

Do not hesitate to share a beer with him ;)
