Hi, I am thinking of maybe spending a couple of days in either Ghent or Bruges either around the last week of December, or for New Year. Which is best and why? I can always go by train to see the second choice - so if anyone could let me know their thoughts I would be most grateful. Many thanks.

Well, it depends on what you want.
Personally I prefer Ghent, it%26#39;s livelier than Bruges but maybe it would be easier to give you advice if you can indicate what you are looking for.

Brugge is more romantic during the NY period than Gent. And more than lively enough during the day but perfectly quiet at night.
I%26#39;d stay in Brugge and daytrip to Gent.
