advice on commute from airport to brussels Midi

Please help me to find the best way to commute from the Brussels International Airport to Brussels Midi Train Station. I have learnt that a train connect them directly. But here is my situation:

I will arrive in morning 6:10am by a international airplane on a thursday, but by tracking this fight%26#39;s arrival status, it seems to be very frequently late for 15-20 minutes. I have to catch a train departing from Brussels Midi on 7:31! And that is the only direct train to my desination everyday. And thinking about the time for luggage! I am carrying a 30 kg luggage.

So my question is how long will it take to comute by a Taxi in a thursday morning? will it need to queue for taxi in the airport?

I am really worrying to miss the train, please help me!

Thank you a lot in advance!

Firstly where is your train going to? If its north then it will possibly call at Brussels North station so if you can change here rather than going to Midi which might save you 10 minutes or so and the train will take 10 minutes to get to that station anyway so you can gain 20 minutes by this.

Otherwise at that time in the morning a taxi should take no more than 25-30 minutes tops as long as its before 0700. Still cutting it fine though.

Even if its on time you are going to have to factor in getting through immigration (do you have an EU passport?) then pick up your luggage and then get to either the taxi rank or the train station.

The train is going to take 30 minutes and the last one you can get is at 0650. If you catch this one you will make your train.

Either way its gonna be tight and depeds on how long it takes you to get out of the airport.

You are quite likely to be unable to make it from a 6.10 arrival at BRU to a 6:52 departure, which is the last train that will get you to Midi in time (7:12) for a 7.31 departure from there (the next one arrives at 7:24). Even without any delay in arrival, you have to get off the plane, walk to passport control (it%26#39;s a long way although not as far as at Beijing Capital International Airport!), wait for your luggage to arrive, go down to the station, buy the ticket, and get on the train.

As described above, you might be able to save a bit of time if the train you want to take stops at Central or Nord. But we don%26#39;t know where you want to go.

By taxi from BRU to Midi it should cost about €40 and take no longer than 20-30 minutes - it%26#39;s hard to be precise as there are roadworks on the motorway in from the airport and I don%26#39;t know how far they have got; taxi drivers are usually clued up about avoiding them, though. As to whether there will be a queue for taxis, I wouldn%26#39;t have thought so but you don%26#39;t say what month you will be travelling in, if it is August you should be OK (next month, busines people and officials start coming here for meetings again).

If we knew your destination it should also be possible to advise on NON-direct trains, there is no point in killing yourself just to catch a direct train when there are later connections, even if you have to change.

RonaldoC and Gaminari: Thanks a lot, you guys have been very helpful on my problem.

As for the info missing from my post, my journey will be on late August, and I am traveling from Brussels Midi to Poitiers, France. Therefore it s not possible to depart from other gares.

I know that the time schedule would be very tight even if my flight be on time. But I want to have in mind time budget of each option, so that if there is a chance I can make the right decision.

By checking TGV system, if I miss the train 0731, the next would be on 0743, and then the next would be around 11am. and all the indirect trains will take a lot more time to poitiers. So hopefully I m able to be very lucky and catch that train.

I am also thinking there might be another option to take a bus from brussels airport to Charlie de Gaulle airport and then take TGV there. I heard there were such bus services between airports. Anybody know anything about that?

The bus will probably take around 4 hours to get to Paris if indeed there is such a service. The TGV/Thalys does in excess of 300km/hour so thats why its so quick. Hopeful;y you will make your connection tthen
