Plan my life!!

My partner and I are looking to get away for a few days on a last minute deal, as we are based in London it is cheaper to get the Eurostar out of England than stay in this country!!

We don%26#39;t mind where we go but have recently been to Paris and Amsterdam so were considering Belgium. Brussels, according to this forum, doesn%26#39;t have enough to do for more than a day and we are only young (early 20%26#39;s) so I%26#39;m looking for suggestions, where should we go and what can we do there?

Have also been considering Lille if anyone can recommend that?

Hi Lb,

Dont blame you for wanting to leave the UK. We always go on holiday out of UK when we can. Belgium is a good place to visit and makes a change from other European places. Brugge is a great city to visit, very touristy but well worth a visit and there should be enough to do there to keep oyu occupied for a few days. Boat trips, Horse and cart trips through the city as well as many great museums, including a chocolate museum and a couple of brewerys as being in Belgium you have to try all their beers and chocs. You could always stay a few days in Brussels as well and combine the two.

Lille is also OK as have spent a couple of weekends there over the past two years but would say there is more to do in Brugge and Brussels.

IMHO the people who say there is not enough to do in Brussels for more than a day are either uncultured louts or have not researched the place properly! It is true that you can see the highlights (Grand%26#39; Place, Galeries St. Hubert) in less than an hour if you are really in a hurry but I%26#39;ve lived here for more than 20 years and still have lots left to see and do (or indeed re-do). Of course, if you have no interest in art, architecture (especially art nouveau), history, etc. then I would not recommend Brussels - or for that matter, Lille or Brugge - at all, these are not the best places to go for shopping and clubbing. However, to find out what there is to see, so that you can assess it in relation to your own tastes, I would recommend you go to the specific Brusssels/Brugge etc. forum and click on %26quot;things to do%26quot; on the left, or google Brussels sights, rather than relying on what is thrown up in the forum.

Incidentally, if you take the Eurostar to Lille you can go by local train from there to Brugge via Kortrijk, although of course if you continue to Brussels the onward trip to Brugge (I believe within 24 hours, so you can stop overnight in Brussels in one direction or the other) would be free since it appears that the ABS (Any Belgian Station) option has been generalized and any Eurostar ticket to Brussels now covers you for onward travel to anywhere in Belgium.

Thank you both for your help and suggestions, I%26#39;m still not sure where we%26#39;re heading but I%26#39;ll definately take all your comments into consideration :)
