Travelling arount the city centre

Hi I just wondered what is the best method to travel around the city centre? Is it on foot or by tram etc... If its by tram then how do the tickets work, can you get day passes, do you pay on the tram or beforehand? Is the city so compact that its best on foot? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you will only be in the centre, you can do everything on foot, in fact in the pedestrianized shopping area you will have to. If you want to go out to the Art nouveau area (Zurenborg/Cogels Osylei), you can take a train from Antwerpen-Centraal to Berchem station. See http://www.trabel.com/antwerp/zurenborg.htm.

There is an information office in front of Antwerpen-Centraal railway station where you can get all information, basically you can buy tickets from machines (on which you can select English), including day passes. You can also buy them on board trams but it is cheaper to buy them beforehand. Picture of a machine on here, together with the %26quot;metro%26quot; map, from which you will see that it isn%26#39;t very developed: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antwerp_Pre-metro
