taxi fare from gare du nord to marriott

any idea on what the fare might be from gare du nord to marriott? we will be arriving at brussels airport in the late afternoon and taking the train to gare du nord or central (is one better/easier than the other?)...since we%26#39;re not familiar with how to transfer onto the tram service/and will have luggage, thought that taxi from the train station might be easier? thanks in advance!

The Marriot is closer to Central station so better to take the train there. Its around 1km by road, less if you walk but not so easy with luggage I guess.

Taxi would be under €10 at a guess. There is a metro stop at Bourse practically right outside the Marriot but if you are unfamiliar with the system then a taxi might be a better plan.

I disagree, Gare du Nord is the first station you come to from the airport, it%26#39;s hardly any further from the Marriott than Gare centrale, and while Gare centrale may be closer as the crow flies, the taxis face the wrong way for getting there by the shortest route anyway. I doubt that it could be more than about €6 from Gare du Nord unless you are really unlucky with the traffic.

As for which is easier to use, at Nord you have to come down from the platform (by steps - escalators only going up) and then walk first towards the metro and then when you reach it, turn right and follow signs to taxis. Central is underground so you have to come up, if you are lucky, by finding 2 escalators, one from the platform and another that brings you out near the taxi rank. However, last time I took a train from there, renovation work was still in progress, which was complicating things and I can%26#39;t be sure what the current layout is or whether all the escalators are working.

It sounds like it may be much easier to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel.

Of course it will be more expensive, but may be worth the cost. Given jet lag, luggage, etc.

Would you agree?

Thanks

Yes of course that is always easiest, but also more expensive, cost is around €35-€40 (more expensive from airport to Brussels than Brussels to airport, for technical reasons linked to the different Regions involved).

Another possibility at least on a weekday is to take the no. 12 airport bus which costs €4 covering transfer, at Place du Luxembourg (terminus of no. 12), to the 95, which will bring you to the Bourse (also its terminus so you don%26#39;t need to worry where to get off), your hotel is opposite the front of this big building. If you choose to do this, when you get off the 12 just go around the corner to the right to find the 95 bus stop, and when you get on that one, you need to put your tickets in the orange machine to mark the transit. I don%26#39;t recommend this around rush hour, though, as the 95 would be packed then.

quick question on the taxis - will they be able to accomodate 4 people with carryons and maybe one medium/large sized suitcase? i know that we had trouble fitting everyone into a taxi when we were in vienna. thanks again in advance!
