Trade's union day of stike 6th October 08 Brugge

Just been informed that there is to be a Trades%26#39; union day of strike in Brugge on Monday 6th October. My husband and I are due to visit Brugge on that day for our first wedding anniversary. Has anyone got any experience of this? Will everything be closed? We obviously want to do the tourist thing and have been planning this for ages so if anyone could offer us any advice that would be great. Really worried everything will be closed!!!! Thanks very much in advance.

Most likely all public services and big companies will be on strike. That means probably no public transport, closed museums.

Little businesses like restaurants, shops.. are more likely to be open.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply much appreciated. We will also be there on Tuesday so could do the museums then instead. Glad to hear there might be some shops open on the Monday. We are planning to just have a little amble about and look at the beautiful scenery, but will obviously want lunch etc so good to hear this will still be possible.

As it happens, most museums in Belgium are closed on Mondays anyway, if this was your main concern.

There is a good chance of no trains at all on that day, starting on Sunday evening at 22.00 and going till Monday 22.00.

There should not be any busses driving around in Flanders neither;

I%26#39;m going to Bruges on sunday from brussels and have to get back to brussels airport on Monday 6th oct. Will the trains from bruges to brussels be running

|||

There will be few or even no trains on Monday! As far as I know only the independent union of the Belgian rail won%26#39;t be on strike, but they%26#39;re a minority.

As the strike seems to be expanding to busses as well, I see only two options:

- try to book a shuttle (taxi...) as soon as you can (here is a list of companies in West-Flanders: http://www.luchthavenvervoer.be/Transportbedrijven-Brugge)

- try to prolong your visit and leave on Tuesday

Good luck.

We are staying at the Fevery Hotel on Collaert Mansioenstraat 3. We are being dropped off at the central station, does anyone know how far it is? Can we walk and if not will taxi%26#39;s be available thanks.

|||

All the information you%26#39;re asking for is on your hotel website: http://www.hotelfevery.be/en/route

Quote:

%26quot;It%26#39;s a 35 min walk so easier is to take Bus 4 or 14 and get off at 3rd stop after Market Square (stop %26#39;Gouden Handstraat%26#39; at 150 m from the hotel). Continue along the canal and take 1st street on your left (St. Gilliskoorstraat). At Church go right. The hotel is on your left next to Hotel De Pauw. Tickets cost € 1,50 on the bus or € 1,30 at the station. A taxi costs 9 to 11 euros.%26quot;

Probably no buses on Monday, but I%26#39;m pretty confident the taxis won%26#39;t be on strike.

That%26#39;s wonderful thank you. Must have missed it on the website as only looked at the trip advisor link, thanks again.
