Best transfer from Midi to city centre for disabled couple?

Hi my wife and I are planning a few days in Brussels via Eurostar and want to book a very central hotel as neither of us can walk far (particulalrly with bags etc).

Is the transfer to the city centre straightforward for a less mobile couple?

Any good mid-priced central hotels you would recommend?

Thanks

Obviously the easiest way would be by taxi. Otherwise, you can take a local train (e.g. those going to the airport) 1 stop from Midi to Central and then stay at the Méridien just across the road, or alternatively, the Ibis %26quot;Off Grand%26quot; Place%26quot; or Novotel (ditto) just down the hill. Central Station is very convenient because the hop-on, hop-off tourist buses all start from there.

To transfer to local train, you come down from Eurostar platform by escalator and up to whichever other platform it is also by escalator. Upon arrival at Gare centrale there are escalators but you might do better to look for the lift, since this comes out on the exit level whereas some escalators may come out at the bottom of a flight of steps.

Unless you are prepared to take a taxi there and back, you will probably want to avoid anywhere like the Marriott opposite the Bourse which is on the main North-South axis (Bd. A. Max etc.) since this is accessed by underground trams, which you might not find very convenient especially with luggage. On the other hand, for your actual stay it%26#39;s a very flat area whereas the Central Station is up the hill from the (other side of the) Grand%26#39; Place so you would be going up and down part of the time.

Thanks for info, really helpful - I was suprised to read about %26quot;hills%26quot; in Belgium, we both do walk a little OK but I don%26#39;t do hills very well, is this a real %26quot;hill%26quot; or just a %26quot;belgium hill%26quot;?

I don%26#39;t know why you should be surprised since Brussels has an upper and a lower town. The Gare centrale is a bit less than halfway up to or down from the level of, say, the Parc de Bruxelles or the Place Royale, so there is a distinct slope between it and the Grand%26#39; Place even if this is hardly Mount Everest.

I don%26#39;t know what a %26quot;Belgium hill%26quot; might be (what is an England hill?) but thought you might appreciate the warning.
