where to stay and where to avoid

hi

just booked a great deal on the eurostar for me and my teenage daughter,now for the hotel.in which areas should i be looking,and where should i be avoiding.having read some of the forum on how unsafe it is(which supprised me) downtown sangin sprang to mind :-)ideally in walking distance of the main sites and pretty central.thanks in advance.

If you have read other posts then I am surprised you haven%26#39;t noticed that they all advise staying near Gare centrale, which is also near the Grand%26#39; Place. That said, we don%26#39;t have a stabbing a day here as they seem to do in London. The supposedly unsafe area is around Gare du Midi, which is where you will arrive on the Eurostar, but it%26#39;s not a pleasant area to stay in anyway. You can use your Eurostar ticket on a local train to Gare centrale which is just one stop away, and there are plenty of hotels in the area, just look in the %26quot;Brussels hotels%26quot; list on the left.

thanks gamiari

i am going through them now and have been lookng at a couple near the grand place.and i can use my ticket to get to the station as well, excellent.once again thank you and im looking forward to visiting.

hotel booked in the grand place.so now from gare midi to gare centrale.are the trains pretty frequent and from what platform do they leave.

|||

There are many trains on many platforms. You will have to look for trains to Antwerp, Louvain, airport, Namure, Luxembourg etc.

There are other trains going in the other dorection and they do not stop in Bruxelles central station.

You can have a look at the website http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/. Just put in an hour of departure and %26quot;bruxelles midi%26quot; to %26quot;bruxelles central%26quot;

In any case, all intermediate stops are indicated on displays down at the platforms. The first intermediate stop of your train should be Bruxelles Central. You will have no problem to find it.

thank s joop.

What about the Brussels Hilton on Rue Waterloo?

|||

typical hilton - large and anonymous. rooms in decent condition. best thing about it is the views as it is a large tower but the higher floors are executive rooms - supp payable and businessy. two restaurants - the famous but now without a michelin star maison du bouef and a more brasserie style 24 hour one. nice cosy bar too. well located opposite avenue louise for shopping and a 5 min stroll to the sablon for cakes at wittemeer.

better value for money at the sofitel le louise opposite at the moment - very trendy new 5*

As i was searching keep in mind that all Sofitel%26#39;s rooms have not been renovated yet, and works have not finished.
