Any advice please on public transport from Ypres (Leper) to Brussels. I am staying in Ypres for a week and would like to do a day trip to Brussels to see the sights. Also in Ypres are there many lace or chocolate places to visit?

Ieper (not Leper) to Brussels is a 1 hour 45 min. train ride (no changes).
As for chocolate and lace, Brussels or Brugge will certainly have a bigger choice than Ieper.

I%26#39;m going to Leper (Ypre) on a battlefield tour in a few weeks.
What would you recommend to do in free time and recommend a good place for lunch?
|||
If you would like to experience the typically Belgian food, I sugest you go to lunch at :
De Ruyffelaer
Gustave de Stuersstraat, 9-11
8900 Ieper
www.deruyffelaer.be
No french fries available here, just typical Belgian Grandma%26#39;s kitchen.
Something to keep you busy in your free time? Shopping? Walking around on the city walls? Can you make trips out of Ieper or is it only a few hours free time?

Firstly, where on earth are people getting LEPER from instead of IEPER?? Capital %26quot;I%26quot; might possibly be confused with lower-case %26quot;l%26quot;, but surely not at the beginning of a word as in a placename?!
Secondly, what I would highly recommend you do in Ieper/Ypres apart from visiting the battlefields around the city is to visit the Menin Gate and the In Flanders Fields museum: http://www.inflandersfields.be/.
Thirdly, I seem to remember a good restaurant on the main square called Old Tom.
