Bruges & Ghent on the same day from Brussels

Is it possible or a good idea to visit both Bruges and Ghent (each a half day) on the same day on a train from Brussels? We will be in Brussels in August and have two days to travel out. We would like to visit Antwerp, Bruges, and Ghent. But we can only accomplish all that if we can combine Bruges and Ghent on the same day. Please advise.

It is possible, but even a full day in each one is shorting the town severely, so I%26#39;d definitely pick one rather than both.

It would be such a pity if you would have only a few hours to spend in each city. If I were you, I would skip one city. If you have never been to Brugge before, make that a full daytrip. You will truly enjoy it.

It could be do-able if you start off early, bearing in mind that it is 1 hour to Brugge then 30 minutes to Ghent then 30 minutes back to Brussels (and I would do it in that order since this will give you the chance to decide whether you want to stay on in Brugge). To have the possibility of stopping in Ghent on the way back, make sure to specify when you buy your ticket that you want a VIA ticket: i.e Brugge VIA Ghent. It doesn%26#39;t cost any more but if you don%26#39;t specify, you aren%26#39;t allowed to get off in Ghent. Without a VIA ticket, if they find you on a train between Ghent and Brussels which clearly isn%26#39;t the one on which you left Brugge, they could charge you extra for that journey.

Also, bear in mind with regard to Ghent that the centre is some way from the railway station (Gent St. Pieters), follow the signs for trams and take tram no. 1 direction Evergem/Wondelgem, and get off at Korenmarkt. On the way back to the station, it will be direction Flanders Expo. You can buy tickets from a machine by the tram stop at the station, or from a kiosk at Korenmarkt, I think they still cost €1.20 (€1.60 if you buy from the tram driver).

I would just do Brugges. If you want to do both - it is possible. The best time to see Ghent is around 10:30 - 11pm. The sky is a deep blue and the buildings glisten off the water.

So, if you are doing both. I would suggest Brugges early in the day to early evening. Then go to Ghent for dinner and drinks.
