How easy is it to travel by train from Brugges to Liege please. Also has anyone travelled from Brugges to Cologne?

1) Perfectly easy, Brugge is on the line from Oostende to Eupen, there%26#39;s a train at 58 minutes past each hour on weekdays and it takes 2h05 to Liège-Guillemins.
2) No but I have travelled from Brussels to Cologne, this is the way you would have to go if you want to take Thalys, and only one change (3h47), otherwise you can go via Liège with 2 changes (4h44). For timetable see http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en but be careful to spell city names correctly (BRUGGE or BRUGES). It accepts Cologne but will change this to Köln Hbf (Hauptbahnhof).

I am doing the Christmas markets and can%26#39;t decide between Liege or Brussels for my 2nd day.
