i read about the upcoming public transport strike. If I get stuck at Zaventem airport, and would have to queue for hours for a taxi, where can I go in the vicinity of Zaventem (within a few km walking) to pass the time instead of waiting at the airport for a day? are there any parks or places of interest nearby? thanks

Not really. There is Zaventem %26quot;village%26quot; (dorp), which may have a little park: walk out of the airport - road will be obvious - and when you come to the traffic lights, turn left, keep going straight on.
Unfortunately it seems ALL transport companies are supposed to strike, so not just trains (SNCB) and the airport buses (STIB) but also regional buses like De Lijn: it might still be worth going down to the bus level to check whether there is anything there, even the De Lijn bus for Roodebeek would allow you to spend time at the Woluwe Shopping Centre.
The Antwerp Express shuttle might conceivably be running, timetable is on BRU website: brusselsairport.be/en/…bus
