Transport Around Belgium / Ideas where to go

Hi,

I%26#39;m organising a trip to Belgium with my friends for the end of July. We%26#39;re arriving on the 29th, and staying in the Bauhaus Hotel overnight. Since we%26#39;ve all been to Bruges before, we%26#39;ve decided that one night there is enough and that we should travel elsewhere.

I had a look on the rail website, but tbh it just confused me. Is there a cheap and direct way to get to Ypres from Bruges? Also, is there a direct train to Ghent and if so, how frequent/costly is it? As a group of students, we%26#39;re trying to do this on the cheap!

The train ride from Brugge to Ieper (the official Flemish denomination for Ypres) takes 1 hr 46 min. and involves one change in Kortrijk (Courtrai in French).

The train ride from Brugge to Gent (without H) takes 23 min. on a direct train.

If you are all students -26 yrs old, you could buy one or more Go Pass(es) at 46 euro. One Go Pass allows to take 10 single 2nd class trips between two Belgian stations of your choice. You can use the Go Pass between all of you. The normal fare Brugge-Ieper and back is 21 euro per person (for students)!

Even for the short ride Brugge-Gent the Go Pass would be cheaper. Normal return fare for students is 11.20 euro!

Here%26#39;s some more info on the Go Pass: b-rail.be/nat/E/tarifs/passes/go/index.php

On the same website you can consult the timetables. Make sure you use the correct spelling for the cities: Brugge, Ieper, Gent-Sint-Pieters.

Thanks very much. Which one do you think will be more suitable for us? We all love Ypres, but we%26#39;re unsure about whether there%26#39;s enough there to keep us occupied for two days

Personally I%26#39;d prefer Gent for two days. It has more to offer for young people IMO.

Ieper is really very small. There is the %26quot;In Flanders Fields%26quot; museum, which is a Must See. Furthermore there is the Ypres Salient with WW1 tenches, etc. but they are scattered over the Westhoek area and not so easy to reach without a car.

Why don%26#39;t you do both? One day in Ieper and one day in Gent?

Antwerp is a fun town also.

Yes, it sure is! Especially for young people. But the poster asked about Ypres and Ghent. Therefore I didn%26#39;t mention MY hometown. Thanks for bringing it up!

And if you are 26? Can you use go pass?
