Brussels Short Stopover

I am planning to break my Eurostar journey back from Bruges with a 3 to 4 hours stopover in Brussels. I would be keen to see the Atonium but not sure how far out this is and what public transport there is to get there from Midi station. Should I attempt this or just stick to visiting the city centre attractions. Thanks for any help

Since you will be on your way back from Brugge, you will be on an IC train which stops at Bruxelles-Nord, Central and Midi. Get off at Gare centrale, where you might want to leave luggage at the consigne/lockers. Follow signs to the metro and buy a metro ticket for €1.70 (or 2 so you don%26#39;t have to waste time buying one for the return journey), then take metro line 1A direction Roi Baudouin, and get off at Heysel (you will see the atomium as you arrive there as that station is overgound). It is 13 stops away, so allowing for the fact that you may have to wait 10 minutes for the right metro, you need to allow at least 30 if not 40 minutes to get out there (and, of course, back).

On your return, after picking up luggage at Gare centrale, take any train going to Gare du Midi (one stop), there is roughly one every 10 minutes. Bearing in mind, however, that you need to be at Midi 30 minutes before Eurostar departure.

If for some reason you want to leave your luggage at Midi, you can connect to metro line 1A via the underground tram (3, 4, etc., direction Gare du Nord), changing at De Brouckère: but be warned that it is a long connection from tram to metro, although there is a travelator for part of the way.
