April in Amsterdam/Brussels

Hi Folks,

I%26#39;m planning to go to Amsterdam and Brussels for 12 days in April 2009...any itinerary suggestions?

Also would you rent a car or take the train?

Thanks in advance,

Get a copy of Earl Steinbicker%26#39;s %26quot;Daytrips in Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg%26quot;. It offers a large number of daytrips from Brussels and Amsterdam.

A car would be an expensive nuisance in Brussels and Amsterdam. If you do decide to rent a car, look for hotels outside of those two cities that have good transport options into the city centers. A car is handy for visiting the smaller towns and along the seacoast.

I%26#39;ve always gone by train and used Brussels as my base for Belgium. Brussels%26#39; hotels are cheaper on weekends as all the government and business types have gone home. The two Ibis hotels near the Grand Place can be real bargains on weekends given their prime locations.

Amsterdam hotels are more expensive on the weekends than on the weekdays. And, I%26#39;m sorry to say, I%26#39;ve never found a decent one in the city center that falls within my budget. For better hotels at a more reasonable price, The Hague and Haarlem offer good options. I particularly like The Hague when the weather is fine.
